    What is Vardenafil (Levitra)?

Vardenafil is a medication commonly used for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. Levitra is the branded version of this medication produced by Bayer. This medication is available in three different strengths, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg. It is also available as an orodispersible (melt in the mouth) 10mg tablet.

    How does Vardenafil work?

Vardenafil (Levitra) is a potent phosphodiesterase (PDE5) enzyme inhibitor that works by dilating blood vessels in the penis, increasing blood flow to this region helping to get and maintain an erection in response to arousal.

    How do I take Vardenafil?

Vardenafil (Levitra) tablets should be swallowed with water. The may be taken with or without food, however taking them with a large or fatty meals may delay the onset of activity. Vardenafil (Levitra) should be taken on a when required basis approximately 25 minutes before any proposed sexual activity which action lasting for up to 4-5 hours. The recommended starting dose in adults is 10mg that can be increased to 20mg if response is inadequate. Vardenafil (Levitra) should only be used once in a 24-hour period.

    Tablets vs Orodispersible tablets

Vardenafil (Levitra) is available in two different forms. Both medications contain the same active ingredient and work in the same way. The only difference is that the orodispersible tablets melt in the mouth, making it easier for patients who find it difficult to swallow tablets. It is important to note that 10mg of orodispersible tablets is absorbed differently to a 10mg normal tablet, so your response at the same strength may not be the same.

What are the cautions associated with taking Vardenafil?

Although Vardenafil tablets are commonly prescribed in the UK to treat symptoms of Erectile Dysfunction, it is still important to check if the medication is suitable for you. Vardenafil should not be used by people suffering with certain conditions or those taking certain medications. You should always read the patient information leaflet (PIL) for Vardenafil before taking this medication to ensure it is safe for you to use.

What are the side effects of Vardenafil?

Vardenafil (Levitra) like all medications can be associated with certain side effects although not all patients would experience these.
Common Vardenafil side-effects to look out for, include:

    • Facial Flushing / Hot Flushes
    • Indigestion
    • Stuffy Nose
    • Headache (including migraine)
    • Dizziness, drowsiness & visual disturbances – this may affect skilled tasks such as driving, it is recommended to see how you react to this medication before driving or operating any machinery.

Patients should not drink excess amounts of alcohol when taking Vardenafil as it may impair your ability to get an erection and may increase the risk of certain side effects.Patients should also not drink grapefruit juice when using Vardenafil (Levitra).

To see all the side-effects associated with the use of Vardenafil (Levitra) please refer to the patient information leaflet (PIL) or contact Post My Meds.

Can I use Levitra and Premature Ejaculation Treatment at the same time?

Levitra should be used with caution when taking premature ejaculation medication such as Priligy at the same time. This is as combination of these two medications can cause a drop in your blood pressure causing you to feel faint when standing up. To avoid suffering from a drop in blood pressure, we recommed that you leave a gap of at least 24-48 hours between taking ED medications such as Viagra (Sildenafil), Cialis (Tadalafil), Levitra (Vardenafil) and Spedra (Avanafil) and Priligy.

Where can I find more information on Erectile Dysfunction and Vardenafil?

Please refer to the patient information leaflet (PIL) for further information on Vardenafil (Levitra). You can find more information on Erectile Dysfunction on the following page.
