    What is Avanafil (Spedra)?

    Avanafil (Spedra) is a medication commonly used for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. Viagra is the branded name of this medication produced by Menarini Pharma. This medication is available in three different strengths, 50mg, 100mg and 200mg.

    How does Avanafil work?

    Avanafil (Spedra) is a potent phosphodiesterase (PDE5) enzyme inhibitor that works by dilating blood vessels in the penis, increasing blood flow to this region helping to get and maintain an erection in response to arousal.

    How do I take Avanafil ?

    Avanafil (Spedra) tablets should be swallowed with water. The may be taken with or without food, however taking them with a meal may delay the onset of activity. Avanafil (Spedra) should be taken on a when required basis approximately 30 minutes before any proposed sexual activity. The recommended starting dose in adults is 100mg which can be increased to 200mg or decreased to 50mg depending on response. Avanafil (Spedra) should only be used once in a 24 hour period.

    What are the cautions associated with taking Avanafil (Spedra)?

    It is important to check if the medication is suitable for you. Avanafil (Spedra) should not be used by people suffering with certain conditions or those taking certain medications. You should always read the patient information leaflet (PIL) for Avanafil (Spedra) before taking this medication to ensure it is safe for you to use.

    What are the side effects of Avanafil (Spedra)?

    Avanafil (Spedra) like all medications can be associated with certain side effects although not all patients would experience these.
    Common Avanafil side-effects to look out for, include:

    • Facial Flushing / Hot Flushes
    • Stuffy Nose
    • Headache (including migraine)
    • Dizziness, drowsiness & visual disturbances – this may affect skilled tasks such as driving, it is recommended to see how you react to this medication before driving or operating any machinery.

    Patients should not drink excess amounts of alcohol when taking Avanafil as it may impair your ability to get an erection and may increase the risk of certain side effects. Patients should also not drink any grapefruit juice for 24 hours before taking Avanafil (Spedra).     Can I use Spedra and Premature Ejaculation Treatment at the same time?

    Spedra should be used with caution when taking premature ejaculation medication such as Priligy at the same time. This is a combination of these two medications can cause a drop in your blood pressure causing you to feel faint when standing up. To avoid suffering from a drop in blood pressure, we recommend that you leave a gap of at least 24-48 hours between taking ED medications such as Viagra (Sildenafil), Cialis (Tadalafil), Levitra (Vardenafil) and Spedra (Avanafil) and Priligy.
