    Colgate Duraphat Toothpaste £14.49

Colgate Duraphat 5000 toothpaste contains four times the amount of fluoride found in regular toothpaste.  The active ingredient sodium fluoride prevents the buildup of plaque that can cause tooth decay and cavities (dental caries).

Plaque is a sticky film that coats your teeth leaving them feeling soft and fuzzy. It reacts with food to create acid, which wears away the teeth. Too many acid attacks can lead to tooth decay and cavities – tiny holes that cause pain when you eat and drink.

Sodium fluoride is clinically proven to prevent tooth decay by remineralizing the tooth’s surface (enamel). Rebuilding its hard coating stops further damage and relieves the sudden, sharp pain associated with tooth sensitivity.

About Colgate Duraphat 5000ppm High Fluoride Toothpaste

The highly concentrated formula of Duraphat 5000ppm is only available with a prescription. If your dentist has suggested you use a fluoride toothpaste, it may be because you are at high risk of tooth decay.

Colgate Duraphat 5000ppm should be used in place of your regular toothpaste. A 2cm strip provides between three to five milligrams of fluoride.

Brushing your teeth three times a day after meals with fluoride in the toothpaste is the best way of looking after your smile and preventing tooth decay. Your oral health is just as important as any other part of your body – investing in it today will pay off tomorrow.

Duraphat 5000 toothpaste is not suitable for children under 16 years old. In rare cases you may experience some side effects of using fluoride toothpaste. We recommend reading the patient information leaflet carefully before you start treatment.

More information on Colgate Duraphat 5000 toothpaste

Unlike standard toothpastes, Duraphat 5000 toothpaste can only be accessed with a prescription, due to its high fluoride content. The name of the product relates to the toothpaste’s 5000 ppm fluoride concentration. It belongs to a group of medicines otherwise known as caries preventing agents.

While there are other 5000ppm fluoride toothpastes on the market, Colgate promises to do more to protect teeth over time – helping to substantially reduce the build-up of plaque and prevent cavities. It is important to note, however that this prescription toothpaste should not be used in conjunction with other toothpastes on a daily basis, nor should it be used simultaneously with fluoride tablets, chewing gums, drops, varnishes or gels.

Users should not exceed a 2cm strip of toothpaste each time they brush. It is recommended that brushing should be carried out for around 3 minutes, 3 times a day.

Typically, Colgate prescription toothpaste is designed for those over the age of 16 suffering from tooth decay. Different toothpaste options are usually recommended for small children.

    Colgate fluoride toothpaste: the benefits

Colgate is a trusted global brand that has been helping to protect oral health for many years. With a mission to give everyone the tools to master their oral health, the Colgate range is focused on creating bright and problem-free smiles. These benefits include not only fresh breath and increased whiteness but also cavity prevention, reduced sensitivity, enamel protection, tartar control and plaque prevention.

While Duraphat 5000 isn’t the only fluoride toothpaste Colgate offer – in fact sodium fluoride is contained in all of the brand’s toothpaste options – it does differ in concentration to the over-the-counter options available in shops around the world. When applied topically, sodium fluoride is clinically proven to combat tooth eruption by inhibiting demineralisation and aiding the remineralisation of the tooth surface.

How long should you use Colgate Duraphat toothpaste for?

You should use Duraphat 5000 toothpaste in line with the recommendations of your dentist or primary health provider. As this is a prescription-only toothpaste, you will typically be required to seek a new prescription at the end of each tube.

However, if you experience side effects from using Duraphat 5000 toothpaste then you should stop immediately. In some rare cases it is possible for people to have an allergic reaction to 5000ppm fluoride toothpaste, which may lead to swelling of the hands and face or difficulty breathing. In the event of a reaction, contact your doctor immediately. Other rare side effects reported include a burning sensation in the mouth.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult with a doctor before seeking a prescription for Duraphat toothpaste.

It is also important to note that Colgate fluoride toothpaste should not be ingested and should always be spat out after use. Swallowing too much of any toothpaste may result in issues such as diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach pain.

What’s the easiest way to get Duraphat 5000 toothpaste?

The quickest and easiest way to get this high concentration fluoride toothpaste is through an online consultation here at PostMyMeds. As an online pharmacy offering safe, fully-registered prescription services, we simply require patients to complete a medical assessment questionnaire that will enable prescribers to approve and arrange for the dispatch of your order.

The checkout and payment process is also smooth, safe and seamless so that your prescription comes to you swiftly and discreetly, with maximum convenience.

    Duraphat 5000 Toothpaste Side Effects

Like all medicines, Duraphat high fluoride toothpaste can cause side effects in some people. In rare cases (less than 1 in 1000 people) it can cause an allergic reaction. Symptoms include:

    • a rash
    • itching
    • swelling
    • redness

A small number of people have also reported a burning sensation in their mouth.

Always read the patient information leaflet before you start treatment. If you are concerned about side effects, contact your dentist or pharmacist for advice.

Higher concentrate fluoride toothpaste is not suitable for patients under 16. Adults and children may benefit from using a toothpaste with lower levels of fluoride.

How long should you use Duraphat toothpaste for?

You should continue to use Colgate Duraphat until the tube is empty or your dentist or pharmacist tells you to stop the treatment.

We recommend brushing three times a day, preferably after meals. Use 2cms of toothpaste and brush vertically from the gum to the tip of the tooth. It should take you approximately three minutes to brush your teeth well.

Can you buy Duraphat toothpaste over the counter?

Duraphat is a prescription-only medication, which means you cannot buy it off the shelf in a supermarket like you would other toothpastes. This is because it contains a higher concentration of fluoride – around four times the amount of normal toothpaste.

High-fluoride toothpaste is not suitable for everyone – it must be prescribed by a dentist or an appropriate healthcare professional, so they can check to make sure it’s safe for you to use.

It’s easy to buy Colgate Duraphat from Post My Meds online. Simply complete an online questionnaire by selecting ‘start a consultation’ for your condition. Our prescribing pharmacists will review your answers, and if we think it’s safe for you to use Duraphat, we will process your order and dispatch it by first class post.

What is Duraphat toothpaste used for?

Colgate Duraphat 5000ppm is used to treat the early onset of tooth decay. Your dentist might also prescribe Duraphat if you are at high-risk of tooth decay because you have:

    • Braces fitted
    • A history of cavities (dental caries)
    • A dry mouth or you take a medication that can cause a dry mouth
    • A high-sugar diet or diabetes
    • Poor oral health and you don’t regularly visit the dentist

High-fluoride toothpaste works by ‘remineralising’ the hard coat coating (enamel) on your teeth to prevent further damage and relieve the pain associated with tooth sensitivity.

Where can I buy Colgate Duraphat toothpaste?

You can buy Colgate Duraphat toothpaste from a private pharmacy, like Post My Meds. It’s quick and easy to buy online in three simple steps:

    • Complete a short online consultation

Can I use Colgate Duraphat with other fluoride treatments?

Colgate Duraphat 5000ppm toothpaste contains concentrated fluoride and shouldn’t be used alongside other fluoride treatments. This includes fluoride drops, tablets, chewing gum, gels or varnishes, as well as water fluoridation or salt.

Before you buy Duraphat toothpaste, check to see if your water supply is fluoridated. You can do this by contacting the supplier for your area.

How do you use Colgate Duraphat?
