WHAT IS PHOLCODINE LINCTUS?
Pholcodine linctus helps you to stop coughing especially if it is a dry, non-productive cough. It works by stopping your automatic cough response.
HOW TO TAKE PHOLCODINE LINCTUS?
Adults and children aged 12 and over – Take 10mls up to 6 times in any 24 hours
Children aged 6 to 12 years – Take 5mls up to four times a day in any 24 hours. Not to be given for more than 5 days without the advice of a doctor.
If you feel you need to take this medicine for a long time or the effect becomes weaker, then consult your doctor.
If your child’s condition deteriorates whilst taking this medicine, seek medical attention.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CAUTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH USING PHOLCODINE LINCTUS?
Do not take Pholcodine linctus if you have:
- Had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients
- Liver disease
- Breathing problems
- Kidney problems
- Persistent cough or cough with excessive secretions
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
If unsure, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking.
Not recommended for children under 6 years of age.
Pholcodine linctus may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you take this medicine.
Pholcodine linctus may interact negatively with some medicines. Therefore, if you are taking other medications regularly, you should always consult your GP, pharmacist or the patient information leaflet to ensure this medicine is suitable for you to use.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE SIDE-EFFECTS OF PHOLCODINE LINCTUS?
Like all medications, Pholcodine linctus can cause side-effects, although not all patients will experience these.
Stop using this medicine and seek advice from your doctor if you experience:
- Rare allergic reactions including skin rashes, swollen face, lips, tongue and difficulty breathing
You may also experience more common side-effects such as:
- Nausea, vomiting, constipation
- Drowsiness or dizziness
- Slow or shallow breathing
- Difficulty in coughing up mucus or saliva
