What is Imigran?
Imigran contains the active ingredient Sumatriptan, which is a prescription only medication (POMs) used to provide migraine relief in those patients who suffer attacks that do not respond adequately to analgesic medications.
How does Imigran Work?
Imigran is used for migraine treatment and provide relief of symptoms during acute attacks (with or without an aura). It works through acting on 5HT1 receptors in the brain to help deal with factors that contribute towards the development of a migraine attack such as blood flow and trigeminal nerve activity.
How do I use Imigran?
The recommended dose of Imigran tablets is a single 50 mg tablet; some patients may require 100 mg. If you do not respond to the first dose of Imigran, a second dose should not be taken for the same attack. If you do respond to the first dose, but the symptoms reoccur a second dose may be given in the next 24 hours, as long as there is a minimum interval of 2 hours between the two doses. No more than 300 mg should be taken in any 24-hour period.
What are the cautions related to Imigran use?
Although Imigran is a commonly prescribed medication in the UK it may not be suitable for everyone. This medication should not be used by people suffering from certain conditions and those taking particular medications. You should always read the patient information leaflet (PIL) for Imigran before taking this medication to ensure it is safe for you to use.
