    What is Maxalt?

Maxalt contains the active ingredient Rizatriptan, which is a 5HT1 receptor antagonist used in some patients who suffer from a clear diagnosis of migraine attacks that do not respond adequately to analgesic medications.

    How does Maxalt work?

Maxalt is used to treat an acute migraine attack (with or without an aura), through acting on 5HT1 receptors in the brain to help deal with factors that contribute towards the development of a migraine attack such as blood flow and trigeminal nerve activity.

How do I use Maxalt Melt?

Maxalt Melt wafers are designed to melt in the mouth allowing fast absorption of medication to the brain where the medication works to control symptoms of migraine. You should take 10mg as soon as possible after the onset of a migraine attack and repeat after 2 hours if migraine recurs. If there is no response to the first dose a second dose should not be taken for the same tack. A maximum of 20mg should be taken in 24 hours. Maxalt Melt wafers should be placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve. The medication may include aspartame.
